Why is ASIST training important?
- On average, over 15 people die by suicide in the UK every day. This is nearly twice the number of people who die in road accidents.
- 1 person in 20 has thoughts of suicide in any one year in the UK.
- Suicide affects all ages, genders, and cultures.
- The World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) estimates that approximately 1 million people around the World will die by suicide this year.
- "For every suicide death there are scores of family and friends whose lives are devastated emotionally, socially and economically“ - (Dr C Le Galès, W.H.O.)
Most people contemplating suicide do not want to die - they want to stop the pain and difficulties they are suffering.
